i54 South Staffordshire is a multi-million pound high-tech business park developed by a joint venture partnership of Staffordshire County Council, Wolverhampton City Council and South Staffordshire Council. To provide a rapid transport connection to the adjacent M54 motorway a brand new dedicated motorway junction was constructed (works normally carried out by Highways England).

The new motorway junction required the construction of a main access road to the business park, two elevated roundabouts, four slip roads, motorway overbridge & associated bridge abutments all within a restricted land corridor.

Geoman Ltd designed numerous retaining systems for the new motorway junction construction including 8m high incremental concrete panel geogrid reinforced soil abutments, steep geogrid reinforced soil slopes and a 3m high x 150m long gabion wall supporting the slip roads. All designs were submitted to and approved by Highways England.
