Geoman’s paving design tool provides instant preliminary sections for pavements. Download them in PDF format to share with others on your project team. Our in house development of the tool ensures it follows standard design methods. We optimised the design tool for mobiles also, so it is always available.

How to Use

The tool requires two inputs: the expected traffic and soil strength. Multiple options are available for quantifying the expected traffic. Click submit to view tables of the required depths. These include values for regular, permeable and geogrid options. Each is available as a section drawing, with your project and company name. Also on the drawing are notes about the design assumptions and a material specification. If you are unsure about the design parameters contact us to request design advice.

The paving design tool can provide useful information on alternatives to standard paving. Using permeable, geogrid reinforced paving could lower your costs and improve drainage.

Permeable Paving

SUDS does not require attenuation tanks or complicated drainage systems. Permeable paving can store rainwater in the voids in the pavement subbase. Water then either drains into the ground, or discharges at a controlled rate. This can prevent flooding, surface water and excessive rainwater run-off.

Geogrid Reinforced

A geogrid reinforced subbase can be thinner than unreinforced one, so you can save on material, labour and disposal costs. Alternatively geogrid can enable pavement construction on poor soils, without excessive settlement or prohibitive subbase depths.

If you require further design advice, hydraulic design for permeable paving or an indemnified design please contact the office. Plans to expand on the functionality of this tool to flags and heavily trafficked pavers are currently underway, but are available directly from our engineers. Finally, if you have found this tool useful, or want to suggest ideas for other online services for this website, feel free to contact us.
